Modernizing the Engineering department websites
A refreshing redesign of the College of Engineering's department websites, bringing a confusing, dated navigation into a clear, modern experience for tens of thousands of monthly visitors.
Problem
Confusing, outdated navigation buried content across the department sites — visited by tens of thousands of users a month.
Approach
Led a ground-up redesign — new architecture and wireframes, stakeholder buy-in, then built it live in HTML/CSS/JS.
Impact
A modern, fully responsive site, live today — nominated for Student Employee of the Year for the work.
Background
As a Web Assistant for Auburn's College of Engineering, I led a full redesign of the department websites — modernizing site architecture and navigation for the tens of thousands of visitors they get each month.
The problem
- Confusing navigation with too many layers to click through
- Information overload — no clear hierarchy of what mattered
- Outdated content cluttering pages that were years old
Process
I initiated and owned the entire design process for the department pages, end to end:
- Drafted low- and high-fidelity wireframes in Figma, refined through design meetings
- Pitched designs to stakeholders — the dean of engineering, department heads, marketing heads
- Built the pages by writing HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and shipped them into the existing site architecture
- Ensured every page was accessible and translated well to mobile
- Coordinated with individual departments to represent their content and marketing goals correctly
Outcome & impact
A fully responsive redesign, refreshed content across every department, and a Student Employee of the Year nomination for the work.
Reflection
The largest project I'd owned to that point — some departments were still migrating content when I graduated, but all have since adopted the new design
